Labor Day Weekend = Beer, BBQ, & College Football!

Labor Day weekend is a perfect time to get together with family and friends to spend a little time enjoying the summer weather together before it disappears for the fall. The best place to celebrate if you'll be staying in the Des Moines area is here with us at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. If you'll be traveling for the holiday, we hear there's an amazing BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks that's well worth the trip too. (wink-wink!)

Join Us For Beer, BBQ, and College Football!
Ahhhh... 3 of our favorite things! Labor Day weekend is not only a relaxing holiday away from work and school, but more importantly, it marks the beginning of college football season!!! That's a big time here at the Boot, because with our 17 TVs and the most awesome Iowa fans for customers, we've got the best place to watch sports in the Des Moines area

We've got plenty of room for all ages and groups of every size. Join us to cheer on your favorite teams while chowing down on plates full of savory, mouthwatering, hickory-smoked goodness. You can wash it all down with one of the 18 beers we have on tap, which include many of your favorite Iowa craft brews. The bar is fully stocked with all the other drinks you love too, and we've got plenty of refreshing non-alcoholic drinks for the younger fans and the designated drivers.

Cool Conversation Starters
If you need something interesting to talk about at your holiday get-together (before the football games start,) whip out a few of these Labor Day fun facts to impress your guests with.

  • Labor Day was approved as an official national holiday on June 28, 1894, to be held the 1st Monday of each September.
  • The 1st Labor Day parade took place before that on September 5, 1882 in New York City. Lots of states picked up the practice afterwards, which prompted the bill that made it a national holiday.
  • Canada also celebrates their "Labour" Day on the 1st Monday in September, but more than 80 other countries celebrate on May 1 for "International Workers Day" instead.
  • Many retailers will tell you that this is the 2nd largest sales weekend of the year, with only Black Friday beating it out.
  • It's the 3rd most popular holiday for BBQ, following Memorial Day at #2 and the 4th of July at #1. (Doesn't everyone eat BBQ for every holiday?)
However, and wherever, you decide to celebrate your Labor Day weekend, just know that Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is here for you. Stay safe, have fun, and most importantly, don't miss kickoff!
