Food Jokes - Just For "Pun"

It's mid-Summer, the heat can be exhausting, and we're in the mood for some goofiness this week.  The best BBQ restaurant near Des Moines has a great sense of humor, and while these puns may make you groan, we bet we get a grin out of you too.  Get ready!

I thought about becoming a vegetarian, but decided it would be a "missed steak."

The other day we ran out of poultry seasoning, but don't worry, we "winged it."

You can consider the people that you enjoy a meal with to be your "taste buds."

Our pickles taste so delicious, they're kind of a "big dill."

We're running low on salads, but "Romaine" calm, we'll get more.

When a clock is hungry, it goes back "four seconds."

Our peppers pack some heat, but they're still a little "chili."

"Don't go 'bacon' my heart."... "I couldn't if I 'fried.' "

Sweet dreams are made of "cheese," who am I to dis a "brie."

We "relish" the fact the you've "mustard" the strength to "ketchup" to us.

Silly enough for you?  Hopefully it gave you at least a little giggle.  We are as much about fun and having a good time here as we are about cooking up the best BBQ in Clive, IA.  Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is the perfect place to enjoy a great meal and have an awesome time out with friends.  Bring along someone with you that's never been here before.  We always love "meating" new people.

Why Do We Slow Cook Our Smoked Meats?

Making the best BBQ in the Des Moines area is what we proudly do. It's a long, slow process that may sound like a lot of trouble, but is so worth every bit of the time and effort it takes when you taste that final product.  If you want that fall-off-the-bone meat that literally melts in your mouth, slow smoking is the way to go.

Grilling is the act of cooking food directly over a fire, but smoking is done by cooking the food next to, not over, the flame.  It also must be done at a very low heat, which is why it is such a long process.  Mini-science moment:  smoking meat actually turns the collagen in the meat to a gelatin, which is what makes it so very tender.

We have perfected our dry rub here at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse, and our preferred wood is hickory.  The combination of these things makes for maximum flavor and tenerness.

If you haven't had the chance, you really need to get on over to the best BBQ restaurant in the Des Moines Iowa area and give our smoked meats a try.  Our mouth-watering choices include:

  • Pulled Pork
  • Beef Brisket
  • Burnt Ends
  • Turkey Breast
  • Pit Ham
  • Smoked Sausage
  • Wings

There is no need for you to go to all of the trouble of smoking your own dinner. We have the very best smoked meats at our amazing Clive, Iowa BBQ restaurant already cooked up and waiting for you.  Our experience cooking these delicious meats guarantees that you will get the best possible meal whenever you have a craving for it right here at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse.

4 Great Summer Cocktails To Pair With BBQ

Hot, juicy, mouth-watering barbecue definitely makes you thirsty.  Here at the best bbq restaurant in the Des Moines, Iowa area, we've got a fully stocked bar manned by some talented mixologists ready to concoct a little ice cold refreshment for you.  Here are some great drink ideas to get you started.

BEER

While this one doesn't require any mixing on our part, beer is the #1 drink requested with barbecue.  We've got lots of different varieties for you to choose from in bottle form, and 18 beer taps featuring the tastiest brews available, including a few local favorites.

MULE

The Moscow Mule is a delicious, refreshing cocktail made from vodka, lime, and ginger beer, but the key to an amazing one is the copper mug that it must be served in.  Our drink menu offers a few yummy variations on the original recipe.

LEMONADE

Summer and lemonade go hand in hand, and this beverage is quite versatile for making delicious cocktails.  With the large variety of flavored vodkas and rums available today, we can mix up quite a few different tastes for you.

TEA

There are a couple of different favorites to make with iced tea.  First of all, we've got the Ice Pick which is iced tea with vodka added.  Once again, flavored vodkas can change the taste of the tea.  Another favorite is named for the golfer John Daly- vodka, tea, and lemonade- which is a twist on the non-alcholic
1/2 tea, 1/2 lemonade drink named for another golfer, an Arnold Palmer.

Those are just the beginning of the multitude of cocktails that our bartenders can mix up for you.  Give them the flavor that you are looking for, and they will come up with the best drinks to compliment our wonderful Iowa bbq restaurant menu. We promise to keep your bbq hot and juicy, and your drinks ice cold and refreshing.

3 Important Pieces of a 4th of July BBQ

This year the Fourth of July falls on a Saturday.  That pretty much means you've got the whole weekend to celebrate.  A very popular thing to do on a Summer holiday like this is to host a BBQ.  Over 74 million people will most likely be doing this for the 4th.  Well, this Clive Iowa BBQ restaurant knows a thing or two about that, so here are a few tips to make yours the best.

Main Course

The easiest things to toss on the grill are chicken breasts, burgers, bratwurst, and hot dogs.  A pretty interesting fact- about 150 million hot dogs are expected to be eaten on the 4th of July! The thing that will really set off your meat is a really great BBQ sauce, like our very own house-made special recipe sauce that you can buy by the bottle and take home with you.

Sides

If you feel like cooking, everyone loves to see potato salad, baked beans, and grilled corn on the cob. If you want easy, there's chips, watermelon, and fresh veggies.  If you want super-easy, give Wobbly Boots BBQ a call and pick up a few of our delicious side dishes to go. We've got the baked beans and potato salad, plus creamy cole slaw, green beans with bacon, cheesy corn with ham, and lots more.

Drinks

The most important thing about drinks at a Summer BBQ is that they are cold.  Ice will be the most important thing on your shopping list.  If you are an alcohol drinker, you will probably have a cooler or two of beer near the tables too.  The Fourth of July is the biggest holiday for beer sales.

Backyard BBQ's are one of the simplest parties to throw together.  You just need the items above and some friends and family to enjoy them with.  If you want to make things easy on yourself, give Wobbly Boots Roadhouse a call.  We can cook up some mouth-watering food for you to pick up and serve, leaving you more time to just relax and enjoy the party.  Have a happy and safe Fourth of July Weekend.
