Menu Showdown: Savory Soups vs. Loaded Salads

The best BBQ restaurant in Des Moines has an excellent variety to offer when it comes to our extensive menu. This time of year, the weather makes a delicious, hot soup a popular item to order both as a meal or as a side dish. On the other hand, lots of New Year's resolutions involve eating healthy and losing weight, which causes many to turn to our yummy salads. Today, Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive will be comparing the wonderful benefits of each of these menu items. After that, the decision is all yours!

When it comes to the soups and salads on our menu, they have a few things in common. Both are full of healthy ingredients, can tame a hungry appetite, and pair well with the best BBQ in Des Moines. They do differ in a few ways too.

Soups
A hot bowl of soup is the perfect thing to enjoy on a cold winter morning. Especially right now, because January just happens to be National Soup Month. It's an amazing comfort food, warming you from the inside out. Alone, a bowl of any one of our hearty soups will fill you up, but they are also a wonderful side dish to add to an order.

We offer our famous Baked Potato Soup seven days a week. It's rich and creamy, filled with chunks of potatoes and bacon, then garnished with cheddar-jack cheese, green onions, and more bacon. In addition to that popular flavor, our kitchen also prepares a hearty homemade Soup of the Day in a variety of delicious flavors. You can try a new one every time you come in.

Salads
Salad isn't just a side dish at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. (Although it does come that way too!) We take a crisp blend of healthy greens and add a variety of tasty ingredients. Salads are full of fiber plus essential vitamins and minerals. An easy way to get in your daily dose of vegetables.

You can stay light with our Garden Salad topped with cheddar-jack & provel cheeses, tomatoes, and red onions. Simple and delicious! Of course, we also offer four other meal-sized salads topped with yummy add-ons, like our hickory-smoked meats and more.

Salads never looked, or tasted, so good! You can top them with any of our dressing choices: Ranch, Bleu Cheese, Chipotle Ranch, Honey Mustard, French, 1000 Island, Italian, or Fat-Free Ranch.

Cowboy Cobb
The king of salads! A chilled bowl of crisp greens generously topped with smoked ham & turkey, crumbled bacon, hard-boiled egg, avocado, tomatoes, red onion, and cheddar-jack & provel cheeses. Available in a half-portion too.

Bacon-Shrimp Salad
A chilled salad bowl filled with mixed greens, bleu cheese crumbles, diced tomatoes, red onions, a hard-boiled egg, and finished with our amazing bacon wrapped shrimp.

Chicken Strip Salad
Our large chilled salad bowl filled with mixed leafy greens, generously topped with tomatoes, red onions, mozzarella & provel cheeses, and finished with our hand-breaded tender chicken strips. Also try your chicken "buffalo style" for a spicier version. Available in a half-portion too.

Grilled Chicken Salad
Our giant chilled salad bowl filled with mixed greens, diced tomatoes, red onions, cheddar-jack cheese, mozzarella-provel cheese, bacon, and a hard-boiled egg.

Have both!
In all honesty, both our soups and salads are an excellent choice to order, so we let you have both when you take advantage of our Soup & Salad Combo. You'll get a bowl of soup and a garden salad, or you can even choose to have one of those along with a toasted sourdough Ham & Swiss of Turkey & Swiss sandwich.

Another option would be to have a cup or bowl of soup along with a half-portion of one of our "meal" salads. You could even bring a friend in with you, order full versions of both, and share. FAMOUS TENDERLOIN
An Iowa tradition! This generous cut of pork tenderloin is tenderized, hand-dipped in buttermilk, and then breaded in our seasoned flour and bread crumbs. As big as the plate...We are proud of this one!!!

SOUTHERN STYLE PORK

Our traditional pulled pork sandwich with a Carolina twist - it's topped with our creamy cole slaw.

SMOTHERED BRISKET

CATFISH BLT
A southern-style catfish filet coated in seasoned corn meal and fried to a golden brown. We serve it on a ciabatta roll with bacon, lettuce, tomato and chipotle mayo.

STEAK SANDWICH
A six-ounce choice top sirloin steak seasoned and charbroiled to your liking, served open faced on golden Texas toast. It's topped with sauteed onions and mushrooms. A perfect lunch sized steak.

PRIME RIB FRENCH DIP
Smoked prime rib and melted Mozzarella cheese served on a lightly toasted ciabatta roll with a side of au jus.

PRIME RIB MELT

Cheer the Iowa Hawkeyes At The Boot This New Year!

Most people use New Year's Day to think ahead to a brand new year full of possibilities. Here at the best BBQ restaurant in Des Moines, like many other Iowa football fans, our thoughts are focused on January 2. That's the day when all eyes will be watching our 17 Wobbly Boots Roadhouse TVs, anxiously anticipating the Hawkeyes taking on the Gators in this year's Outback Bowl.

This particular bowl is usually a New Year's Day tradition, except when that holiday falls on a Sunday, like this year. In that case, they play the bowl on the following Monday. This year's kickoff will take place on Monday, January 2, 2017 at noon at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. If you didn't make the trip to see the bowl in person, then you can join us right here at Des Moine's best place to watch Iowa football.

From 1986-1995, this college football match-up between the Big Ten and the SEC was called the Hall of Fame Bowl. In April of 1995, Outback Steakhouse took over sponsorship, and the name was fittingly changed to the Outback Bowl.

This will be the Iowa Hawkeyes fifth appearance in this bowl game, and the third time that they have faced the Florida Gators. In 2004, they beat the Gators 37-17, but in 2006 the Gators overtook the Hawkeyes 31-24. Looks like it's our turn to take another win!

The other two times that the Hawkeyes played resulted in a win over South Carolina in 2009 with a score of 31-10, but in 2014 they were defeated by LSU 21-14.

Wobbly Boots BBQ will open our doors at 11:00 am on game day. That means you can get in here early, watch the pre-game with us, and order up a great big lunch to keep you filled up during the game. Also, college football means football specials here at the Boot. We'll have our $5 appetizers and $3 tall boys for everyone while the Hawkeyes are playing. That is, of course, in addition to all of our other mouth-watering menu items that you've come to love.

The 12 Meals of Christmas

The holidays are just around the corner, and if you're lucky, someone will be gifting you with a Wobbly Boots Roadhouse gift card! Have you bought a few of your own to share with family and friends? Just imagine the excitement on their faces when they open it up and begin thinking about all of the mouth-watering meals that they will be able to enjoy from the best BBQ restaurant in Des Moines.

In the spirit of Christmas, we took a little inspiration from a popular holiday song to come up with our "12 Meals of Christmas." Here are just a few examples of what a Wobbly Boots BBQ gift card recipient is really getting. Ready?

For the first meal of Christmas, my true love ordered for me...

Our homemade BBQ sauce spread over our flatbread pizza crust, topped with smoked chicken breast, red onion, tomato and mozzarella & provel cheeses. Outstanding Flavor!!

#6 - BBQ Sandwich
All of our slow-smoked meats (pulled pork, pit ham, beef brisket, smoked sausage, turkey, or burnt ends) are served on a fresh toasted bun. We serve our BBQ wet (sauced). Feel free to ask for it dry. Our burnt ends are always served with the sauce they are smoked in. All sandwiches are served with one side dish

A great way to try a variety of our slow smoked meats! Choose any THREE different meats to fill your plate...Totaling a full pound!!! All Meat Plates are served with Texas Toast and a choice of two Home Style Side Dishes.

We don't just do great BBQ. Our burgers are the best in the Midwest! All of our burgers are 100% hand-pattied black Angus ground chuck, cooked on a flat-top iron & served on a fresh soft bun. You have 7 different choices, and this particular one is a real mouth-burner! Topped with bacon, jalapenos, our chipotle buffalo sauce and pepper-jack cheese.

#10 - Roadhouse Ribeye
A 12 oz Choice Ribeye Charbroiled to your liking. A juicy mouth watering steak topped with a Templeton Steak Butter, ensuring deliciousness, bite after bite. It is served with Texas toast and a choice of two of our home style side dishes.

#11 - Famous Tenderloin
An Iowa tradition! This generous cut of pork tenderloin is tenderized, hand-dipped in buttermilk, then breaded in our seasoned flour and bread crumbs. As big as the plate... so bring an appetite!!!

#12 - Smoked Meatloaf
Not exactly like mom made, but every bit as good. (Dare we say better?) Our handmade meatloaf is slow roasted over hickory. Absolutely one of our best!!!! Served open-faced with homemade smashed potatoes, brown gravy and green beans.

It's probably going to take a few visits to eat all of those orders, but don't worry. We're open every day at 11:00 am, ready to serve up juicy, delicious lunches, dinners, and even mid-day snacks. Damon Dotson LIVE at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse - Friday, 12/16/16

We've got one of Wobbly Boot Roadhouse's favorite musical acts hitting our stage this Friday, December 16, 2016. Damon Dotson is a very popular Iowa musician that has brilliantly entertained the customers at our Des Moines BBQ restaurant many times in the past, and we're thrilled to have him back this week.

Damon Dotson is an accomplished singer/songwriter based out of our very own city of Des Moines, Iowa. He has been performing for the past ten years all over the Midwest, and even released four original albums of his own.

Originally from northwest Iowa, Damon spent a couple of years in Nashville before moving back to Des Moines with a musical style that obviously grew from his time in "Music City, U.S.A." Once back in his home state, Damon got right back to touring. Channeling inspiration from his own heroes like Dave Matthews and Willie Nelson, he has created a sound that everyone at Wobbly Boots BBQ, along with the rest of Iowa, loves so much!

In March of 2015, he released "Tumblin'" which features a variety of up-beat tunes and heart melting ballads. The album release boasted a sold-out crowd of over 600 people, and the release of "Tumblin'" on iTunes received nationwide attention by climbing to #24 on the iTunes rock charts. This put him in the company of well-loved musicians such as The Beatles, Elton John, and Pink Floyd on the charts.

Damon has opened for legendary performers like BB King, Willie Nelson, The Beach Boys, as well as modern artists like Matt Nathanson, Edwin McCain, and The Lone Bellow. He is one of only two people ever to have the honor of singing "America the Beautiful" on the floor of the House of Representatives at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines. The other was world-renowned opera singer Simon Estes.

Damon tours the Midwest performing both solo shows and with a full band at venues in Minneapolis, Omaha, Chicago, and Iowa. Our restaurant in Des Moines is just one stop of many, and we are proud to be able to showcase this magnificent talent.

We are deep into football season, and this week our two hometown favorite college teams are meeting up once again. The best place to watch football in Des Moines, as well as every other spectator sport, is right here at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive.
