5 Great New Year's Resolutions To Make For 2018

Every time a new year comes around, people see a chance to make some positive changes in their life and proclaim New Year's resolutions. Today, your favorite BBQ restaurant in Des Moines thought we'd give you some resolution ideas that won't be hard to keep at all in the coming year.

Try Something New
If you're really wanting to make some changes in your life, you can't keep doing things exactly the way you always have. We're sure you have a Wobbly Boots BBQ favorite dish that you order all of the time, but we've got an extensive menu full of delicious options.

If you're needing to get your life more in order for 2018, start with getting some important dates down on the calendar. This is the first step in making sure you remember when all of the good stuff is going on so you don't miss it. For example, write down every time your favorite team is playing so that you know that's an evening you'll be at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse for lunch or dinner, watching all the games on one of our 17 TVs.

Wobbly Wings & Iowa Football - A Perfect Pair!

The holidays are upon us, and more than this being a time to share with family and friends, it also means that there are a lot of college bowl games coming to the best place to watch sports in Des Moines! There are many delicious menu items at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive to enjoy with an ice cold Iowa beer from our tap while you watch the games, but by far the most popular football food always seems to be those jumbo Wobbly Wings.

Wobbly Wings
As we mentioned, there are many menu items that seem to pair nicely with watching the game, like our Bar-B-Que Pork Nachos, Sliders, and Bacon Wrapped Shrimp for example. For some reason though, Hot Wings seem to be the favorite.

Our preparation may have something to do with that because, on a wing scale of 1-10, ours sit at about a 20+! First, we coat jumbo chicken wings in our special house dry rub. Then they get slow-roasted over hickory for the perfect amount of time, ensuring only the most flavorful, juiciest wings possible! They taste amazing served plain, but our wing sauces add even more unbelievable flavor.

Bar-B-Que - Our own homemade in-house BBQ sauce. A perfect addition to wings (or any meat, for that matter!)
Teriyaki - Our own house-made sweet & sticky glaze... DELICIOUS!!!
Hot Dijon Sauce - A little hot mustard + buffalo sauce + some sweet = Delish!
Jalapeno Garlic - Minced jalapenos combined with garlic in a butter sauce. A great flavor mix!
Chipotle Buffalo - Buffalo sauce infused with chipotle peppers making a buttery, smoky buffalo sauce.

You can order a plate for yourself of 5 or 10 wings, or go big and get the plates of 20 or 30 wings to share with a few fellow football fans. The more you order, the more sauces you can try!

The Pinstripe Bowl
The awesome Iowa Hawkeyes will be taking on the Boston College Eagles on Wednesday, December 27 at 4:15 pm in New York City at Yankee Stadium for the Pinstripe Bowl. This is the 5th season in a row that the Hawkeyes have ended their year with a bowl game. Both teams are going into this with a 7-5 record. Be sure to get to the Boot early and get a great seat to cheer on our boys. This game just happens to start during Happy Hour (3-6 pm) so perfect timing!

The Liberty Bowl
This year Iowa State's incredible Cyclones will be playing the Memphis Tigers in the Liberty Bowl on Saturday, December 30 at 11:30 am in Memphis, TN at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. This will be ISU's first bowl appearance since the 2012 Liberty Bowl. They are said to have one of the better defenses in the country this year, so we're expecting an exciting game! Come on by and grab a seat when we open at 11 am, order some lunch, and settle in for a great game.

Catch ALL the Games

Delicious Drinks To Warm You Up From The Iowa Cold

December is here and winter weather is quickly approaching. (As a matter of fact, it feels like it's already here!) We've not only got the best BBQ in Des Moines to warm your bones, but our wonderful Wobbly Boots Roadhouse bartenders can mix up some delicious drinks that will do the trick too. Here are a few suggestions.

Whiskey Drinks
Whiskey is known for warming up a person when the weather gets cold. In reality, it really just gives you the immediate sensation of warmth by causing your blood vessels to dilate which brings warm blood closer to the surface of your skin. The feeling won't last long, but it will sure taste good when it goes down! Here are a couple of whiskey cocktails you may want to try.

Hot Toddy
This classic cocktail made up of whiskey, honey, lemon juice, and hot water is a great drink for tackling some of the symptoms of a winter cold.
Four Horsemen
If a little bit of whiskey gives you a warm feeling, imagine what 4 at once will do! This delicious drink consists of scotch whiskey, bourbon whiskey, Tennessee whiskey, and Irish whiskey.

Coffee Drinks
Hot coffee always tastes good on a cold day, and when you add some of the special ingredients from behind our bar, it tastes even better! Coffee cocktails are great to enjoy with your meal, and they make excellent after-dinner drinks too. Some of our favorite add-ins are; Bailey's, Irish whiskey, Kahlua, and Amaretto.

Bloody Marys

Tasty Goodness All "Wrapped" Up - Our Delicious Wobbly Wraps

Sometimes you're in the mood for a big, hearty meal, while other times a sandwich is the perfect thing to hit the spot. Where do wraps fit in? Well, the wraps at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse take the savory, hickory-smoked meats you'll find on our dinner plates and roll them up in sandwich-like form inside a tasty tortilla. You get the big flavor of the best BBQ in Des Moines in a convenient, hand-held version.

Wraps really haven't been around all that long, at least commercially. They started showing up sometime in the 80's and continued to gain popularity through the 90's. One origin story tells the tale of the California chain "I Love Juicy" inventing this new "sandwich" to resemble a Tex-Mex burrito. Of course, as with most origin stories when it comes to food, there's rarely just one. In the mid-90's, Connecticut's "Bobby Valentine Sports Gallery Cafe" claimed to invent the wrap when one of their waitresses served it because they had run out of bread.

Full of Flavor and Goodness
Regardless of where it originated, Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive has most definitely perfected this delicious dish. We start out with the most savory meats and then add fresh and flavorful ingredients, including lettuce, tomato, and a variety of cheeses. Lastly, all of those incredible flavors are wrapped up inside either a wheat tortilla, which is known to be high in fiber, B vitamins, and a multitude of minerals, or a tomato-basil tortilla, which adds a touch more deliciousness to the mix.

Our Wobbly Wraps are enough to satisfy your hunger on their own, but they look so lonely on the plate by themselves that we can't resist serving them along with your choice of one of our homestyle side dishes. As for the wraps, your choices include:

Turkey Bacon Ranch
The original Wobbly Boots' wrap! Lightly grilled turkey breast served in a warm tomato basil tortilla, stuffed full of bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar-jack cheese & ranch dressing.

The Wrangler
A wheat tortilla stuffed with three of our signature items: pulled pork, legendary baked beans & creamy coleslaw. We then place it on our grill and toast the tortilla, blending all three flavors, which makes one incredible WRAP!

Grilled Shrimp
Grilled jumbo shrimp with bacon, lettuce, tomato & cheddar-jack cheese all wrapped up in a warm tomato basil tortilla.

Turkey Avocado
Hickory smoked 100% breast of turkey served in a warm tomato basil tortilla with avocado, avocado mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheddar-jack cheese.

Honey Mustard Chicken
Our charbroiled chicken breast cooked perfectly with bacon, lettuce, tomatoes , mozzarella-provel cheese & our house-made honey mustard dressing, served in a warm wheat tortilla. Delicious!

Buffalo Chicken Strip
Our homemade chicken strips fried to golden perfection and tossed in our homemade buffalo sauce, with lettuce, tomato, cheddar-jack cheese and ranch dressing, served in a warm wheat tortilla.

The holidays are here! Schedules seem to get very hectic for most people this time of year, but hosting your own holiday party allows you to control some of that chaos. Our family restaurant in Des Moines will be open for Thanksgiving this year on Thursday, November 23, 2017, from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm. You don't have to worry about cooking for everyone. Take a Black Friday Shopping Break
Black Friday is always a hectic and long day if you're a bargain shopper. You'll need to swing by the Boot at some point to refuel so that you can get back out there and keep going! It's also a great place to hang out if you're trying to avoid those crowds.

Even though it's still part of most people's extended holiday weekend, it is technically a weekday, which means that our awesome Happy Hour will be in full swing from 3-6 pm. That's just in time for the Hawkeyes game! What a happy coincidence!

10 of Our Top Menu Items (How Many Have You Tried?)

The diverse menu we have to offer not only includes the best BBQ in Des Moines, but also many other delicious dishes to please any appetite. Today's blog has a tasty look for you at 10 of the most popular menu items at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. Get ready for your mouth to start watering!

WOBBLY WINGS
Our JUMBO chicken wings have been bringing people to this BBQ restaurant in Des Moines since we originally opened the doors! The dry rub that we prepare them with is fantastic, and the slow-roasting process over hickory turns them into the most mouthwatering wings you've ever tasted. People love eating them plain, but we've also got some popular sauces to coat them in: Teriyaki, Hot Dijon Sauce, Jalapeno Garlic, Chipotle Buffalo, and Bar-B-Que.

BURNT ENDS
This delicacy starts out as Beef Brisket, but the small chunks from the ends of the beef are removed, covered in extra rub, our house BBQ sauce, and delicious Guinness beer. After that, they get additional time in the smoker which turns them into the tender, flavorful pieces of beef that customers at the Boot can't seem to get enough of!

TENDERLOIN
The Famous Tenderloin is an Iowa tradition, and our kitchen does this tradition proud! We offer a generous cut of pork tenderloin (so much that it hides the bun beneath,) tenderize it, hand-dip it in buttermilk, and then bread it in our specially seasoned flour and breadcrumbs. This baby's as big as the plate, and we can't help but be proud of it!

RIBS
You can't run a successful BBQ restaurant in Des Moines without having some amazing ribs on the menu like these! Our dry-rubbed Baby Back Ribs spend the perfect amount of time in the smoker, and then they're lightly grilled and basted in our delicious house recipe BBQ sauce. We offer a half rack option, but if you get the full rack, that could mean you'll have tasty leftovers later! (Although it's tough to quit eating once you get started!)

HICKORY-SMOKED MEATS
We've mastered the precise amount of time that each of our hickory-smoked meats needs to be in the smoker, and the result is the most tender, juicy, flavorful plates full of goodness you have ever tasted! Whether you decide to enjoy one on a bun or prefer to have a few different types together on a plate, your hunger will be happily satisfied. Your choices include Hand-Pulled Pork, Sliced Turkey Breast, Sweet Smoked Italian Sausage, Applewood Smoked Pit Ham, and Tender Smoked Brisket.

SMOKED TURKEY
It's like Thanksgiving any day you decide to order our incredible Smoked Turkey Dinner. We take a generous portion of our all white meat smoked turkey breast and serve it open-faced with smashed potatoes and covered in delicious turkey gravy. Now that's a comfort food!

SMOKED MEATLOAF
Our Smoked Meatloaf is not exactly like your mom used to make, but it's definitely every bit as good! We add our own Wobbly Boots BBQ twist by slow-roasting our handmade meatloaf instead of baking it. This mouthwatering dish is served open-faced with smashed potatoes too and covered with brown gravy. Absolutely one of our best!

BLACK ANGUS BURGERS
As is evident from this list already, we don't just do great BBQ. Our diverse menu is filled with all kinds of delicious dishes, including the best burgers in the Midwest. All of our burgers are created with 100% hand-pattied Black Angus ground chuck, cooked on a flat-top iron, and served on a fresh soft bun. As if that wasn't enough on its own, we've come up with some amazing topping combinations to give you lots of delectable burger choices.

Anyone can make a flatbread, but not just anyone can make a great flatbread with toppings that make your taste buds smile. Here at the Boot, we've got 4 different versions of our Big City Flatbreads to tempt you. These include Spin-Art-Chicken, using our homemade Spinach Artichoke Dip, BBQ Chicken with our homemade BBQ sauce, the B-L-T using homemade cheese sauce, and Crab Rangoon with our unbelievable crab rangoon filling. You'll want to come back often so you can try all four.

SMOKED PRIME RIB
The taste of our Prime Rib Dinner makes it special, but the fact that you can only get it on Fridays and Saturdays after 5 pm makes it an extra-special weekend treat. You can get either a 10-oz or 14-oz savory cut of Smoked Prime Rib with Texas Toast and your choice of 2 of any of our home-style side dishes. Instead of TGIF, it's more like TGIPR!
