5 Simple Steps To BBQ Enjoyment

It's tough to truly enjoy the best BBQ in Des Moines without making a mess, but with a little bit of know-how, it can be done. (Although getting at least a little bit messy is part of the fun!) We've put together a few tips so that the next time you enjoy a meal at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive, you just might get out of here without the evidence of your BBQ meal all over you.

1. PREPARE
Before we even set that hickory-smoked goodness on the table in front of you, there are a few things that you can do to get ready. First, plan your wardrobe wisely. Dark clothing hides stains fairly well if they happen, but if you wear white, you're practically guaranteeing that the BBQ will land on your clothing at some point!

Next, make sure that napkins are placed strategically near you, and a small stash of wet naps close by will really come in handy too. Finally, make sure that there is plenty of space around you for that mountain of BBQ-smeared napkins that will be piling up so that they don't spill into your neighbor's personal dining space.

2. PICK YOUR FORM
The less-messy option for eating BBQ is to use a knife and fork. (But where's the fun in that?) Sometimes, the best thing to do is just pick it up and dig in! After all, you already prepared to get messy in step #1. If you use the tips of your fingers to hold those mouthwatering morsels, you may at least be able to contain most of the mess to the end of your hands.

3. LEAN IN
The best way to avoid getting sauce all over your clothes is to lean over your plate. That way, any of our housemade BBQ sauce that makes its way past your defenses will hopefully drip onto the plate rather than onto you. We completely understand if you forget about this step because you are so consumed with the euphoria of delicious flavors in your mouth that you get a bit distracted. If you've put one of those napkins in your lap, and maybe even tucked another into your shirt, your clothes may still be safe.

4. SAVOR
Hopefully you're eating with a group of people that don't mind letting you get kind of messy, because you need to take some time to savor the explosion of incredible hickory-smoked flavors that are happening. Your friends should be just as messy as you are at this point, and if they're not, then you know they're super jealous! Don't bother using napkins for every bit of BBQ that ends up on your hands. "Finger-licking good" is a common phrase around here for a very good reason.

5. CLEAN UP
Once you've "cleaned your plate," or at least eaten as much as your stomach can hold in one sitting, that's when you can worry about wiping away any last bits of your meal that didn't make their way into your mouth. (Hey, it happens!) You've got your trusty wet naps close by, and we've got plenty of soap in the bathroom if things really got out of hand.

There you go. Five simple steps to help you successfully make it through your meal at the best BBQ restaurant in Des Moines. Follow them and you just may leave as clean as you arrived. Of course, we won't think any less of you if you do head home a little more stained than when you arrived at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. That's a sure sign that you enjoyed each and every moment of your BBQ dining experience!

Visit us often so that you can get in plenty of practice utilizing the tips above. Before long, you'll be a bonafide BBQ expert. Our last piece of advice for enjoying BBQ is this; don't sweat the sticky stuff, just dig in and savor the flavor!

5 Things You'll Want to do After Dining on Wobbly Boots BBQ

Your plates that were just recently filled with the best BBQ in Des Moines have been cleared, your stomach is happy, as well as your taste buds, and it seems like there's nothing else to do but pay your bill and head home. Not true! We love having you here at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse with us, so we've come up with 5 things that you can do after you eat to stick around a while longer.

Wash your hands.

We strongly encourage our customers to dig right in when we hand them a big ol' plate of BBQ. It's okay if you get a little messy. Heck, we expect it. We've got handy wet wipes available, but if you really enjoyed that meal, you may need to skip off to the restroom for some soap and water. Just don't forget to take a BBQ selfie before you clean up! Once that BBQ is cleaned off of your skin, you'll be ready for these next ideas.

Try some dessert.

Our meals are quite a plateful, but if you plan ahead, you just might be able to save some room for dessert. We highly suggest you give our tasty treats a try. If you're worried about feeling too full, start out with the sweets and we'll give you a doggy bag to take your leftover BBQ home in. You only live once so have some fun, flip things around, and eat dessert first!

  • Rustic Apple Tart
  • Maple Layered Cheesecake
  • New York Style Cheesecake
  • Molten Lava Cake

Stick around for a cocktail.

There is absolutely no rush for you to leave once your meal is over. Stick around and enjoy one of the amazing mixed drinks or local draft beers from our bar. An after-dinner drink is a great way to relax and let that great meal settle. We'll bring it to your table or you're more than welcome to take your party on over and pull up a seat at the bar.

Catch a game.

If you time your dinner right and it's a game night, then you're definitely going to want to stick around after dinner and cheer on your team. There's baseball on every night right now, football is just around the corner, and the Olympics begin this week. Plenty of chances to catch some sports with us.

Write a review.

Eating everything on your plate is always a good indicator that you liked it, but hearing how you felt about your visit lets us know for sure. We love to hear what you think, and we encourage you to leave reviews for us on your favorite sites: Facebook, Yelp, TripAdvisor, Google, OpenTable... BBQ Enjoyment in 5 Simple Steps

Enjoying the best BBQ in Des Moines without making a huge mess is an acquired skill. With a few visits, a bit of preparation, and some practice, it is possible to become an expert. On the other hand, making a mess is half the fun! We've got 5 easy steps for you to follow so that you get the maximum enjoyment out of your Wobbly Boots BBQ, and maybe even make it home without any on you.

1 - Invite your friends.

There is nothing wrong with eating BBQ alone, but there are a couple of great benefits to having a few people sharing a table with you. #1- there's a good chance you can snag a sample off of their plate, and #2- it's a lot less embarrassing to get BBQ sauce all over yourself if you're not the only one. You won't have to worry about embarrassing photos either, because your friends will be too covered in their own dinner to dare pick up those smart phones!

2 - Be prepared.

The first thing that you should do before heading to our Des Moines BBQ restaurant is to plan your wardrobe. If you wear something light-colored, especially white, you are almost guaranteeing that you're going to spill something on it at some point during dinner. Darker shades of clothing keep your secret safe.

Make sure the napkins are within reach and stocked up. Get your knife and fork ready, but there is absolutely no shame in grabbing a few of our mouth-watering menu items with your bare hands. It's a lot easier to get every single bite of our smoked hot wings and baby back ribs that way. How do you think they came up with the phrase "finger-lickin' good?"

3 - Dig in.

It's go-time! Lean over that plate and take a big ol' bite. As long as you have made the preparations that we suggested above, you should be safe to enjoy the euphoria of savory flavors in your mouth without incident.

4 - Savor the flavor.

This is the important step, the "magic" moment. Every tasty bite will add a little sauce to your fingers, face, etc... but don't worry about that right now. You've got napkins! Close your eyes and focus on the magnificent combination of slow-smoked goodness that you have just taken a great big bite of.

5 - Clean up.

Once you've savored all the flavor your stomach can handle in one sitting, you're probably going to need to clean up a bit. We've got handy wet naps specifically for this task, and a bathroom fully stocked with soap if you really got carried away. Ask your server for a doggy bag for anything you have left over, and maybe an extra bottle of our housemade BBQ sauce to take home with it, and think about how wonderful those leftovers are going to taste tomorrow!

Enjoying a meal at the best BBQ restaurant in Des Moines can be a dirty job, and hey, nobody HAS to do it, but everybody WANTS to. There absolutely no shame in having a little on you when you're done, and everyone that notices will be jealous because they will know you just enjoyed a delicious meal Wobbly Boots Roadhouse.

Winterize Your BBQ Grill Properly

With winter coming, if you aren't the type that enjoys braving the snow to barbecue, it's nearly time to  pack your grill away for the season.  You won't miss the delicious flavor though, because the best BBQ restaurant in Des Moines is here to serve up delicious, hickory-smoked flavor to you all year long.  Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is set up so you won't have to go without your favorite foods over the snowy winter.

There are a few important things you should take care of before you store your own grill for the season.  Here are a few basic instructions that should work for any grill.

Clean the inside.

Start by firing up your grill on maximum heat and let it run for 15-20 minutes. After you turn it off and while the grill is still hot, use a wire grill brush to scrape off any food that hasn't already burned away.  It will be nice and charred, making it easy to remove.  If it's a charcoal grill, remove an leftover ashes.  You can use soapy water or oven cleaner once the grill cools down to clean off the parts inside.  (Make sure to check the owner manual so that you don't use any cleaner that will damage your particular grill.)  Take it all apart, removing any grilling plates, flame shields, grease tray, etc..., clean them thoroughly, and rinse everything well.  Don't forget to wash the inside of the lid where carbon monoxide has built up and left residue.

Clean the outside.

While those parts are drying, use soapy water to clean the outside surfaces. Thoroughly wash off all knobs, handles, etc...  Don't forget the propane tank on gas grills too.  Be wary if you use any type of abrasive pad.  Test it on a small section of the grill's surface first to make sure that you won't be damaging the finish.  Clean the grill cover as well.  If you find any rips or holes, buy a new one. It's a lot cheaper to buy a new cover now than to replace a damaged grill next year.  If repairs are need to the grill itself, take care of them now so that it's ready to go right away next year.

Test the grill.

If you have taken your grill apart to clean every nook and cranny, turn it back on to make sure that it has been reassembled correctly.  Leaving it on for about 10 minutes will guarantee that the inside is nice and dry for storage.

Store it properly.

In the case of gas grills, ALWAYS remove the propane tank.  Store it in a well-ventilated area.  Before placing your cover back over the grill, be positive that it is completely dry.  The very best way to store your grill for winter is to house it inside a dry location like a garage or storage shed.  If this isn't possible, try to at least keep it in a covered area, and be sure that the grill cover is properly in place.

Head to Wobbly Boots Roadhouse!

You don't have to be sad about packing away your gill for the season.  Jump in the car and head on over to the best BBQ restaurant in Des Moines.  It's cozy and warm here, and you can sit back and enjoy our award-winning BBQ without any work on your part.  We'll even clean up when you're done.  Wobbly Boots Roadhouse will be here welcoming you with open arms and tasty BBQ all winter long.  We bet you like it so much you'll visit us often during grilling season too.
