Let Wobbly Boots Roadhouse take care of all of that for you. As an added bonus, when you enjoy our Thanksgiving Day Buffet, you don't have to worry about doing the dishes after dinner either!

We'll be serving up our delicious hickory-smoked turkey along with some unbelievable side dishes, buffet style. For just $13.99 per person, you will be able to enjoy:
  • Hickory-Smoked Turkey
  • Cheesy Corn
  • Green Beans
  • Stuffing
  • Mashed Potatoes & Gravy
  • Homemade Cornbread

Thanksgiving Day Football
While you're are enjoying that delicious Thanksgiving buffet, we'll have all of the holiday sports action playing on our 17 TVs. There's not a bad seat in the house at Wobbly Boots BBQ when you want to catch a game!

The Vikings take on the Lions at 11:30 am, and the Chargers face the Cowboys at 3:30 pm. (Knowing that will probably make it easier to decide what time you want to come in and eat!) Don't forget to make it back here on Friday afternoon to catch the Iowa Hawkeyes at Nebraska at 3:00 pm.

Take a Black Friday Shopping Break
Black Friday is always a hectic and long day if you're a bargain shopper. You'll need to swing by the Boot at some point to refuel so that you can get back out there and keep going! It's also a great place to hang out if you're trying to avoid those crowds.

Even though it's still part of most people's extended holiday weekend, it is technically a weekday, which means that our awesome Happy Hour will be in full swing from 3-6 pm. That's just in time for the Hawkeyes game! What a happy coincidence!

Take it easy on yourself this Thanksgiving and celebrate here with us at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. You'll be with great company eating a deliciously mouthwatering meal and enjoying Thanksgiving Day football, and you don't have to clean anything up once you're done!

The buffet will be available from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm, so come in whenever you like. On Friday, our Des Moines BBQ Restaurant will be back to regular business hours, ready and waiting to celebrate an incredible weekend with you!

10 of Our Top Menu Items (How Many Have You Tried?)

The diverse menu we have to offer not only includes the best BBQ in Des Moines, but also many other delicious dishes to please any appetite. Today's blog has a tasty look for you at 10 of the most popular menu items at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. Get ready for your mouth to start watering!

WOBBLY WINGS
Our JUMBO chicken wings have been bringing people to this BBQ restaurant in Des Moines since we originally opened the doors! The dry rub that we prepare them with is fantastic, and the slow-roasting process over hickory turns them into the most mouthwatering wings you've ever tasted. People love eating them plain, but we've also got some popular sauces to coat them in: Teriyaki, Hot Dijon Sauce, Jalapeno Garlic, Chipotle Buffalo, and Bar-B-Que.

BURNT ENDS
This delicacy starts out as Beef Brisket, but the small chunks from the ends of the beef are removed, covered in extra rub, our house BBQ sauce, and delicious Guinness beer. After that, they get additional time in the smoker which turns them into the tender, flavorful pieces of beef that customers at the Boot can't seem to get enough of!

TENDERLOIN
The Famous Tenderloin is an Iowa tradition, and our kitchen does this tradition proud! We offer a generous cut of pork tenderloin (so much that it hides the bun beneath,) tenderize it, hand-dip it in buttermilk, and then bread it in our specially seasoned flour and breadcrumbs. This baby's as big as the plate, and we can't help but be proud of it!

RIBS
You can't run a successful BBQ restaurant in Des Moines without having some amazing ribs on the menu like these! Our dry-rubbed Baby Back Ribs spend the perfect amount of time in the smoker, and then they're lightly grilled and basted in our delicious house recipe BBQ sauce. We offer a half rack option, but if you get the full rack, that could mean you'll have tasty leftovers later! (Although it's tough to quit eating once you get started!)

HICKORY-SMOKED MEATS
We've mastered the precise amount of time that each of our hickory-smoked meats needs to be in the smoker, and the result is the most tender, juicy, flavorful plates full of goodness you have ever tasted! Whether you decide to enjoy one on a bun or prefer to have a few different types together on a plate, your hunger will be happily satisfied. Your choices include Hand-Pulled Pork, Sliced Turkey Breast, Sweet Smoked Italian Sausage, Applewood Smoked Pit Ham, and Tender Smoked Brisket.

SMOKED TURKEY
It's like Thanksgiving any day you decide to order our incredible Smoked Turkey Dinner. We take a generous portion of our all white meat smoked turkey breast and serve it open-faced with smashed potatoes and covered in delicious turkey gravy. Now that's a comfort food!

SMOKED MEATLOAF
Our Smoked Meatloaf is not exactly like your mom used to make, but it's definitely every bit as good! We add our own Wobbly Boots BBQ twist by slow-roasting our handmade meatloaf instead of baking it. This mouthwatering dish is served open-faced with smashed potatoes too and covered with brown gravy. Absolutely one of our best!

BLACK ANGUS BURGERS
As is evident from this list already, we don't just do great BBQ. Our diverse menu is filled with all kinds of delicious dishes, including the best burgers in the Midwest. All of our burgers are created with 100% hand-pattied Black Angus ground chuck, cooked on a flat-top iron, and served on a fresh soft bun. As if that wasn't enough on its own, we've come up with some amazing topping combinations to give you lots of delectable burger choices.

BIG CITY FLATBREADS
Anyone can make a flatbread, but not just anyone can make a great flatbread with toppings that make your taste buds smile. Here at the Boot, we've got 4 different versions of our Big City Flatbreads to tempt you. These include Spin-Art-Chicken, using our homemade Spinach Artichoke Dip, BBQ Chicken with our homemade BBQ sauce, the B-L-T using homemade cheese sauce, and Crab Rangoon with our unbelievable crab rangoon filling. You'll want to come back often so you can try all four.

SMOKED PRIME RIB
The taste of our Prime Rib Dinner makes it special, but the fact that you can only get it on Fridays and Saturdays after 5 pm makes it an extra-special weekend treat. You can get either a 10-oz or 14-oz savory cut of Smoked Prime Rib with Texas Toast and your choice of 2 of any of our home-style side dishes. Instead of TGIF, it's more like TGIPR!

That's just the beginning! You'll find a wonderful variety of different dishes on the menu at our family restaurant in Des Moines, including options that even the finickiest of eaters will love. Come on in to Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive soon and let us help you find your new favorite food!

5 Reasons To Bring The Kids To Eat At Wobbly Boots Roadhouse

Wobbly Boots Roadhouse isn't only the best restaurant in the Des Moines area for delicious, hickory-smoked BBQ, it's a pretty awesome place to order a kids' meal too. Our menu designed especially for the younger crowd features classic kids' favorites plus a few tastes you can only get here at the Boot.

There are lots of great restaurants out there to choose from, but children always seem to love coming to Wobbly Boots BBQ for dinner. Here are 5 reasons why you should bring your kids to dine with us soon.

Sometimes Kids' Meals Are FREE
Yes, you read that right, we said FREE! All day on Tuesdays plus every Sunday evening after 5 pm you can get a free meal off of the kids' menu with the purchase of an adult meal. You all get fantastic food, and Mom and Dad get to save a little money! Some restrictions may apply, so be sure to ask your server for details.

Great Food For The Grownups
There are a lot of places that children love to eat that don't really offer much for the adults to enjoy. That's not the case at the Boot! You can get just as excited as the kids when you dine with us because our menu is filled with down-home deliciousness that simply can't be beat. Whether you're in the mood for hickory-smoked meats, big city flatbreads, classic BBQ dinners, big fresh salads, or Black Angus burgers, you'll find all of that those plus a whole lot more on our extensive menu.
Kids Love To Get Messy
Once you start adding our mouthwatering housemade BBQ sauce to a meal, things tend to get a little messy. When something tastes that good, you simply can't take the time to wipe your mouth between every bite... that would take too long to get to the next bite! Plus, the more you get on your hands, it's literally "finger-licking good!" Don't worry, it washes off easily, and we've got lots of wet wipes handy. Let the kids have some messy fun. (You're more than welcome to join them!"

Family Friendly Atmosphere
The restaurant has plenty of seating for groups both large and small, and once you walk through our doors, you're a part of our extended family. Our friendly staff will make sure you are taken care of, and they're always happy to offer suggestions if you can't decide. As a bonus, if you have a family full of sports fans, we've got 17 TVs so you can all cheer on your favorite teams together.

The Menu Speaks For Itself
Once you get a look at the tasty meals we have in store for kids ages 10 and under, that will really seal the deal. Each of these meals also comes with a drink.

Pork Slider with fries
Chicken Strips with fries
Grilled Cheese with fries
Mini Corn Dogs with fries
Kids Cheeseburger with fries
Boat of Homemade Mac & Cheese

So what are you waiting for? The next time the family is trying to decide where to go for dinner, just say "Wobbly Boots Roadhouse." After hearing that, the kids will be racing you to the car! Everybody has a good time at our family-friendly restaurant in Des Moines, and everybody leaves with a full belly and a great big smile on their face! And remember, if you come in anytime on Tuesdays or after 5 pm on Sundays, the kids can eat for free!

7 of the Most Popular Tailgate Party Foods

The best place to watch football in Des Moines is from the comfortable seats in our restaurant in front of our 17 TVs. That is if you're not watching from the actual stadium, of course. (Unless it's cold & rainy. Then it's much better here!)

The Wobbly Boots Roadhouse menu is full of mouthwatering treats, including 7 of the most popular foods to tailgate with. You can eat them here, or you pick them up to take with you to the parking lot of your team's stadium. Either way, you're going to want to get a plateful of these!

Wings
This is a perfect food for tailgating because you are expected to eat it with your hands, meaning no silverware to mess with and plates are optional. (Of course, you'd better have a LOT of napkins handy!) If you're taking our Wobbly Wings to go, consider getting your favorite sauce on the side for dipping to make it a little less messy. If you're eating them here, we'll give you a plate and plenty of wet naps!

Burgers
A big, juicy burger is a classic football food item. The toppings you add make a big difference, but it's how you prepare the burger that really matters. All of our burgers are made from 100% hand-pattied Black Angus ground chuck, grilled on a flat-top iron, and served on a fresh soft bun. The best in the Midwest!

Chicken
You can usually find quite a few people grilling chicken when you attend a tailgate, and as good as grilled chicken tastes, our hickory-smoked version is way better! We give you a half chicken that has been generously rubbed in our house spices and then slow-smoked. For the finishing touch, it's thrown on the grill and given a light glaze of our house BBQ sauce. Great on its own, but you can also order it paired with the next popular tailgate item on our list.

Ribs
Much like chicken wings, you're going to eat these with your hands and you're going to get messy! (But isn't that part of the fun?) You can get as messy as you like when you eat our slow-smoked, dry-rubbed, Baby Back Ribs that are grilled and basted in our house-recipe BBQ sauce. It's easy to wash off when you're finished, and if you're eating it in the football stadium parking lot, well, you are outside.

Pulled Pork
A heaping helping of hand-pulled, hickory-smoked pork on a fresh bun always hits the spot, and after all, why not have a little pig before watching your team throw around the "pigskin?" We love this particular meat so much, we even added it to the recipe for the next food on the list.

Nachos
Chips, cheese, and jalapenos are usually enough for most football fans, but we couldn't stop there! When you order nachos at Wobbly Boots BBQ, you don't get just any old cheese. We use our homemade queso along with cheddar-jack cheese, plus add tomatoes, onions, baked beans, and our unbelievable pulled pork! The salsa, sour cream, and jalapenos on the side give them even more tasty flavor.

Chips & Dip
It's always good to have some sides handy when you just want to munch, and chips & dips are perfect for this. Here at the Boot, we've got platters of Chips, Salsa, & Queso, and you can also order our house-recipe Spinach & Artichoke Dip.

We love it when a big crowd gathers in our Des Moines BBQ restaurant to watch football with us, but if you prefer to attend the games in person, pick up your favorite Wobbly Boots Roadhouse tailgate-ready foods to go on your way to the stadium. We also have catering available if you'll be throwing a football watching party at your place, and if you spend at least $100 and give us 24 hours notice, we'll deliver it to you! Your favorite team will provide the excitement, and we'll provide the delicious food to enjoy while you watch the game.

5 Reasons That We Love Iowa in the Fall

We absolutely love working at the best BBQ restaurant in Des Moines this time of year because Iowa is an awesome place to experience the season of autumn. This blog is filled with some of Wobbly Boots Roadhouse's favorite things about fall, and we're willing to bet they are some of your favorite things too.

Festivals
If you're not tailgating, there's a good chance you're out picking apples or exploring a pumpkin patch. Des Moines has plenty of that to offer this time of year, and it's not hard to find a festival featuring those things and much more. You can find an entire list of things to do to fill your season with fun when you visit Fall in Des Moines online.

Football
If you're not a fan of college football in Iowa, then you are missing out on a truly amazing experience. The Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones always keep things exciting for us, and the best place to watch football in Des Moines is right here at the Boot! We've got 17 televisions placed all around the restaurant so there's not a bad seat in the house, and a family friendly atmosphere so that even the youngest football fans can enjoy a game with us. As a matter of fact, our customers are the best fans around, so if you can't get to the stadium in person, watching right here is definitely the next best thing!

Vibrant Colors
Autumn in the Midwest is a sight to behold. The leaves are changing into all kinds of gorgeous colors everywhere that you look. The scenery doesn't get much better than an autumn view of the Iowa countryside. There are plenty of places to enjoy a leisurely drive through the country, and Des Moines boasts over 600 miles worth of trails where you can stroll or take a bike ride and enjoy nature's show.
Crisp, Cool Air
The temperatures are awesome too. Summers can get extremely hot around here, and winters can be incredibly cold, but fall is just right! Sunny days have just a slight chill to them, and the humidity levels drop noticeably. It's perfect for enjoying an afternoon outside or an evening by the campfire.

Hot, Tasty Treats
Once you head indoors from the cooler weather, a hot delicious meal is the perfect thing to warm you up from the inside out. This is especially true at Wobbly Boots BBQ, where our hickory-smoked meats are just the thing to do the trick! Our Southern Comfort Food menu items really hit the spot on a chilly day, like the Smoked Meatloaf or the Smoked Turkey Dinner. (Both year-round favorites!) We've even got bowls of the best Baked Potato Soup in Des Moines hot and ready for you.

Plan a day for yourself to get out and experience everything that there is to enjoy about the Des Moines area this time of year. If you make it happen on a Saturday when college football is playing at Wobbly Boot Roadhouse, you can get all of these awesome things accomplished at once! It's a great time of year to be in Iowa, and we want to enjoy it with you.

The History of the Classic Club Sandwich

There are lots of "classic" dishes on the menu at our Des Moines BBQ restaurant that most people are familiar with without having to read the description. Even though we put our own delicious Wobbly Boots Roadhouse twist on these dishes, they're still recognized by nearly everyone. While the names are well-known, the history of these dishes often remains a mystery.

That's where we come in! Learning the origins of the different foods we choose to serve at Wobbly Boots BBQ is kind of a hobby of ours, and we love sharing our findings with all of you. Today we're turning our inquiring minds towards the piled high, chock full of flavor, Club Sandwich.

Club Sandwich Basics
The basic ingredients that you are most likely to find in a Club Sandwich, no matter where you go, are: 2-3 slices of bread (often toasted,) turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. It's kind of like a super-sized BLT with poultry added.

It can be cut into halves or quarters, and it needs to be held together with toothpicks to contain the goodness piled inside. Depending on where you go, these ingredients will vary slightly. (Just wait until you see what we put in ours! Keep reading...)

Club Sandwich Origins
As with just about every food we delve into the history of, there are conflicting origin stories. One source states that the sandwich may have been invented by the chef at the Union Club of New York City. This is because the earliest known real-life reference was a recipe that began, "Have you tried the Union Club sandwich yet?" The earliest reference to the fictional sandwich appeared in "Conversations of a Chorus Girl" by Ray Cardell in 1903.

Other sources swear that the Club Sandwich made its first appearance in the late 19th century in an exclusive Saratoga Springs, New York gambling club. Regardless of who gets the credit, this incredible sandwich has been spotted on menus across the United States as far back as 1899.

Historically, chicken was used instead of turkey, but over time turkey won out as the more popular choice. The sides most often served with Clubs are coleslaw, potato salad, or french fries.

The Wobbly Style Club
Our version of the Club Sandwich has everything that a regular Club should, but we didn't stop there! We add a couple of delicious twists that makes our Wobbly Style Club stand out from the rest.

Instead of three slices of bread, we only use two toasted pieces of sourdough. This leaves more room in the middle for the really good stuff! The turkey and bacon are both prepared in our smoker, and we've also added our incredible hickory-smoked ham to the recipe. We use fresh lettuce and tomato, but we've also added Mozzarella cheese, plus traded out plain mayo for our amazing avocado mayo.

As for side dishes, our homestyle choices do include creamy coleslaw, gourmet potato salad, and seasoned fries, but you are free to pick from our other options too. These include: baked beans, green beans with bacon, smashed potatoes & gravy, cheesy corn & ham, baked potato, and homemade mac & cheese. In our opinion, as well as our happy customers, those are all excellent choices!

So the next time you are enjoying a gigantic Wobbly Style Club from the best family restaurant in Des Moines, you'll know that this awesome sandwich has a long history with many variations, but none quite as tasty as we do it here at Wobbly Boots BBQ! Just be warned, you need to either come hungry, bring a hungry friend to share with, or expect to be taking home a doggy bag!
