Dale Blue - The Barefoot Entertainer at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse

The best BBQ restaurant in Des Moines is lucky enough to have some amazing entertainers grace our stage occasionally.  This Saturday, January 23, 2016 we are thrilled to welcome back a taste of the Lake of the Ozarks - Dale Blue! Although he was born and raised in Missouri and still calls the Lake area home, he has easily won the hearts of all of us at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive.

Dale Blue is also known as the "Barefoot Entertainer."  A nickname given to him by Mark Barrett from Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach.  That all started years ago when Dale frequently played at Dog Days Bar & Grill.  It was an obvious way to start referring to the singer because he always chose to perform without shoes.

According to Dale, in 1983 his career consisted of playing gigs in lots of high-end hotels where he was required to wear suits and tuxedos, and he was expected to play songs that were currently popular on the radio.  He couldn't stand it!  After three years of doing that for 5-6 nights a week, he promised himself that he would never play somewhere he didn't want to play or perform any music that he didn't love.  Also, he vowed never to wear shoes again while performing.  Guess that happens when you're trapped in a suit for too long!

Well, the music that Dale chooses to play now can be described as a unique combination of blues and rock.  Along with the humor and aura of fun that he injects into each of his performances, this show is one that is sure to entertain everybody in the crowd, no matter what your age.  Dale loves passing around the tambourine and inviting audience members to join him onstage and be a part of the fun.  Below is a small taste of what you can expect this Saturday from a past performance at the old Osage Beach Wobbly Boots Roadhouse.

Our Des Moines BBQ restaurant is the place to be this weekend.  Come on by Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive Saturday night and experience this incredible entertainer for yourself.  Every time that Dale shows up with is guitar, amazing voice, and quick sense of humor, everyone has a great time.  He has built up quite a large following traveling around the Midwest, so make sure that you come in early to get the best seats.  Don't worry, though, because no matter where you end up sitting, Dale will make sure that you feel like a part of the show.

Gotta Have Those Baby Back Ribs

The best BBQ in Des Moines comes out of our kitchen, and our menu is full of all kinds of tasty treats for the BBQ connoisseur.  One of the most popular items at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is our Baby Back Ribs.  No, they are not called that because they come from baby pigs.  Here is a little information for you about exactly what you are eating when you order this delicious dish.

We love pigs, because every single part of them provides us with some type of tasty treat.  Among these, the ribs are always a favorite.  The Wobbly Boots Roadhouse rib of choice is the Baby Back Rib.  This particular cut comes from the top of the rib cage, between the spine and the spare ribs.

Wobbly Boots Roadhouse, Clive IA, Des Moines

They are shorter than a spare rib and curved due to their location.  The fact that they are smaller in comparison to the other ribs is the reason they are called "baby," not because of the hog's age.  Meat can be found both between the bones and on top of them.

Here at the Boot, we take special care in preparing our own Baby Back Ribs.  A full order consists of a two pound slab of meaty ribs coated with our amazing dry rub.  They spend some time in our smoker reaching the perfect amount of tenderness, then we lightly grill them, basting them with our secret recipe sauce.  Once that's all done, we pile them on a plate alongside Texas toast and your choice of two of our incredible home style side dishes.  We offer this classic BBQ dinner with a half slab too.

Wobbly Boots Roadhouse, Clive IA, Des Moines

If you haven't had a chance to try our Baby Back Ribs yet, what are you waiting for?  The best BBQ restaurant in Des Moines knows how to create the most mouth-watering, tender, savory smoked meats.  You can't go wrong, no matter what you decide to order.  Let Wobbly Boots Roadhouse take your taste buds on a delicious trip for your next meal.

The Best Burgers in the Midwest

Here in America, we love a good burger.  Not only does Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive serve up a good burger, we offer the most mouth-watering burgers in the Midwest!  The best restaurant in the Des Moines area only serves the most delicious food to our customers, and our Black Angus burgers are no exception.

Our flat-top iron grill only cooks up burgers made from 100% hand-pattied Black Angus ground chuck. The meat comes from the Angus breed of cattle which makes the tastiest, most tender cuts of beef available.  Angus beef develops more marbling than most cattle, and this is what lends to the moist, flavorful burger that comes from it.

Once we have the very best ground chuck in our kitchen, we then make up the most amazing combinations from it.  Each one of our signature burgers is a little bit different, offering up a favorite flavor for everyone ordering.

Farm Boy

A juicy, flavorful classic cooked the way you like it!  If you're really feeling hungry, how about a Double Farm Boy Burger?  One whole pound of deliciousness with toppings on a fresh Kaiser bun.  C'mon, you can do it!

Hickory Bacon BBQ Cheeseburger

Now that’s a mouthful! A 1/2 lb burger topped with our house-recipe BBQ sauce, hickory smoked bacon, & good old American cheese.

Black & Bleu

Our Farm Boy Burger spiced up with Cajun seasoning and topped with bleu cheese crumbles.

El Diablo

A real mouth-burner! Topped with ghost pepper cheese, bacon, jalapenos, and our chipotle buffalo sauce.

Mushroom, Ham & Swiss

This time our famous Farm Boy Burger gets topped with pit ham, sauteed mushrooms, and Swiss cheese.

Patty Melt

Sautéed onions & Swiss cheese are piled on top of the Farm Boy Burger and served on grilled marbled rye bread.

If you like cheese on your burgers, our kitchen's got the tastiest ones to add on. Choose from American, Provolone, Swiss, Cheddar-Jack, Bleu Cheese crumbles, or for a little extra kick, Ghost Pepper cheese.

As if those amazing burgers aren't enough to fill your belly, we serve them up alongside one of our incredible Wobbly Boots side dishes.  Come in hungry or plan on leaving with a doggy bag.

Des Moine's Best Burgers!

For the best burgers in Des Moines, your first choice should always be Wobbly Boots Roadhouse.  Pouring on some of our house-recipe Wobbly Boots BBQ sauce adds an extra flavor boost.  Our 100% Black Angus ground chuck burgers never disappoint, and we bet you'll be back often to give each variety a try.

Winterize Your BBQ Grill Properly

With winter coming, if you aren't the type that enjoys braving the snow to barbecue, it's nearly time to  pack your grill away for the season.  You won't miss the delicious flavor though, because the best BBQ restaurant in Des Moines is here to serve up delicious, hickory-smoked flavor to you all year long.  Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is set up so you won't have to go without your favorite foods over the snowy winter.

There are a few important things you should take care of before you store your own grill for the season.  Here are a few basic instructions that should work for any grill.

Clean the inside.

Start by firing up your grill on maximum heat and let it run for 15-20 minutes. After you turn it off and while the grill is still hot, use a wire grill brush to scrape off any food that hasn't already burned away.  It will be nice and charred, making it easy to remove.  If it's a charcoal grill, remove an leftover ashes.  You can use soapy water or oven cleaner once the grill cools down to clean off the parts inside.  (Make sure to check the owner manual so that you don't use any cleaner that will damage your particular grill.)  Take it all apart, removing any grilling plates, flame shields, grease tray, etc..., clean them thoroughly, and rinse everything well.  Don't forget to wash the inside of the lid where carbon monoxide has built up and left residue.

Clean the outside.

While those parts are drying, use soapy water to clean the outside surfaces. Thoroughly wash off all knobs, handles, etc...  Don't forget the propane tank on gas grills too.  Be wary if you use any type of abrasive pad.  Test it on a small section of the grill's surface first to make sure that you won't be damaging the finish.  Clean the grill cover as well.  If you find any rips or holes, buy a new one. It's a lot cheaper to buy a new cover now than to replace a damaged grill next year.  If repairs are need to the grill itself, take care of them now so that it's ready to go right away next year.

Test the grill.

If you have taken your grill apart to clean every nook and cranny, turn it back on to make sure that it has been reassembled correctly.  Leaving it on for about 10 minutes will guarantee that the inside is nice and dry for storage.

Store it properly.

In the case of gas grills, ALWAYS remove the propane tank.  Store it in a well-ventilated area.  Before placing your cover back over the grill, be positive that it is completely dry.  The very best way to store your grill for winter is to house it inside a dry location like a garage or storage shed.  If this isn't possible, try to at least keep it in a covered area, and be sure that the grill cover is properly in place.

Head to Wobbly Boots Roadhouse!

You don't have to be sad about packing away your gill for the season.  Jump in the car and head on over to the best BBQ restaurant in Des Moines.  It's cozy and warm here, and you can sit back and enjoy our award-winning BBQ without any work on your part.  We'll even clean up when you're done.  Wobbly Boots Roadhouse will be here welcoming you with open arms and tasty BBQ all winter long.  We bet you like it so much you'll visit us often during grilling season too.
