Turn Up The Heat! Spicy Foods Can Be Good For You

Do you like your food to have a little extra kick? Eating foods that are spicy not only adds a delicious flavor boost, but they can actually be healthy for you too. Ordering one of the spicier items off of our Des Moines restaurant menu could offer the following benefits. Wobbly Boots BBQ is here to make sure you are fed, and fed well.

Stress Relief

Endorphins are released in your body when you consume spicy food. These "feel-good" hormones are like a natural pain medication, they can reduce anxiety, and even ease the effects of depression.

Heart Health

"Bad" cholesterol can cause damage to a person's body, but eating chili peppers can lower the risk of this by increasing the breakdown rate of this type of cholesterol. Blood flow is also increased, improving heart function and lowering blood pressure.

Weight Loss

Peppers contain a spicy chemical called capasaicin which is great for boosting your metabolism. The effects can last up to 20 minutes after you have eaten. Foods with a little extra heat can also help you to feel full, which reduces cravings for salty, sweet, and fatty foods.

Eases Congestion

We have all eaten hot foods before that cause us to begin sniffling. This is because spicy items thin mucus, which is perfect when you have clogged nasal passages. The heat can even help with respiratory problems like bronchitis and asthma.

Cancer Prevention

The American Association for Cancer Research has stated that the capasaicin in peppers has the ability to kill some cancer and leukemic cells. It creates a reaction that lowers the risk of tumors too.

Spicy Menu Items at the Boot

In addition to the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks, you will also find a few spicy items mixed into our incredible menu.

Texas Fries
Our seasoned curly fries are smothered in spicy queso cheese, then topped with bacon, green onions, and cheddar-jack cheese. For an extra kick, we throw on a side of jalapenos.

6-Pepper Steak Po' Boy
Thin-shaved, smoked prime rib and melted Swill cheese are the base, then we add our zesty 6-pepper sauce.

Hot Cheesy Stripper
Chicken tenders, either grilled or breaded, are placed on a hoagie roll along with melted provolone cheese. The heat comes from the hot chipotle sauce that we toss the chicken in.

El Diablo Burger
A real mouth-burner! This black Angus burger is topped with ghost pepper cheese, bacon, jalapenos, and our zesty 6-pepper sauce.

The next time that you are craving something spicy, head on over to Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive. Let us know just how hot you like it, and we'll do our best to impress your taste buds with our spicier Des Moines BBQ restaurant menu options.

5 Things That Dads and BBQ Have in Common

Father's Day weekend is upon us, and we bet you are racking your brain for the perfect present to give good old Dad. Well, look no further! Lunch or dinner at the best BBQ restaurant in Des Moines is something that any father will love. Dads and BBQ have so much in common, after all. Here is our Wobbly Boots Roadhouse list of similarities between these two great things.

D-A-D and B-B-Q

Three small letters make up these two short words that = great big, wonderful things. No man in your life rates bigger than Dad, and no flavor rates higher than our house-recipe BBQ sauce. You can even pick up a bottle to put a bow on and give your father to take home.

Robust Describes Them Both

We found a couple of different meanings for this word that seemed to fit our two subjects perfectly. #1: strong and effective in all or most situations or conditions (just like a father); #2: rich and full-bodied (like the flavor or our juicy, hickory-smoked meats.)

Warm and Comforting

BBQ is an excellent comfort food. After a rough day, a delicious meal from Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is almost as good as a great big hug from your dad when you are feeling low. The best of both worlds is when you can share a meal here with your father after one of those incredible hugs.

Jack of All Trades

Most people begin life seeing their father as infinitely wise, knowing everything about every possible subject. Even as we get older and realize our "Super-Dad" is merely human, he always seems to find a way to master whatever it is we need done.

Our Des Moines BBQ restaurant menu is filled with mouth-watering BBQ, but there are lots of other flavors that come out of our kitchen too, making it a perfect place to take a family that can't agree on one type of food.

Always Here For You

No matter where you are or what you need, a good dad is always a phone call away, ready to lend a hand. Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is here, ready to serve you, seven days a week beginning daily at 11:00 am.

Our family restaurant in Des Moines has so much in common with dear old Dad, this is naturally the perfect place to bring him to celebrate Father's Day this year. A full menu of delicious foods to choose from, plenty of televisions to catch his favorite games, and a warm, friendly dining room to enjoy it all in. Happy Father's Day to the dads out there, and we hope to see all of you this Sunday at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse

Why Our Southern Comfort Food is Like a Warm, Delicious Hug

The best BBQ restaurant in Des Moines has a lot more coming out of our kitchen than that tender, juicy, hickory-smoked BBQ. The diverse menu at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse offers a large variety of flavors, including some amazingly tasty comfort foods.

The dictionary describes comfort as "a state of ease and satisfaction; a feeling of relief or consolation; to soothe, console, reassure, or bring cheer to" Comfort food is a dish that brings about those wonderful feelings. When you eat it, it brings back a sense of the innocence and safety of childhood.

Comfort food is often a dish that is fairly simple to prepare, and has some type of nostalgia associated with it for the diner. You know the type of food we're talking about. Those meals that you thought "only Mom can make." Well, we've got a few recipes that any mother would be proud of.

Open Faced Smoked Turkey

The way Mom used to make it! Delicious smoked turkey served open faced on white bread alongside smashed potatoes & turkey gravy and green beans.

Prime Rib Hot Beef

House smoked shaved prime rib served on white bread. Stick to your ribs delicious! It comes with smashed potatoes & beef gravy and green beans.

Chicken Fried Chicken

A juicy chicken cutlet tenderized and breaded with our special seasoning. It's then fried to golden perfection and slathered with our house made chicken gravy and a big helping of smashed potatoes.

Smoked Meatloaf

Our homemade meatloaf is slow-roasted on our hickory smoker. We serve it open-faced with smashed potatoes & beef gravy and green beans.

So the next time that you are in the mood for a big, heaping helping of comfort on a plate, head on over to Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. The smell of the best food in Des Moines will greet you as soon as you enter, beginning that feeling of comfort from the start of your visit. Relax, have a seat, and let us make you feel like a kid again.

The Intriguing History of Happy Hour

Happy Hour is a popular time of day at our Des Moines BBQ restaurant. It's a wonderful way to relax after a long day at work before heading home to all of life's responsibilities awaiting you there. Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is a great gathering place to meet old friends, and make new friends, in that time between work and home.

Oddly, Happy "Hour" is generally made up of a few hours worth of time, but we guess adding the "s" makes it sound kind of weird. The best Happy Hour in the Des Moines area happens right here every Monday through Friday from 3-6 pm. That's 3 full hours of great beer and mixed drink specials, plus our tasty appetizers to enjoy along with those drinks.

In the Navy...

The crew aboard the USS Arkansas created something similar in 1913. They would schedule regular periods of entertainment to keep everyone in good spirits. The crew referred to these scheduled distractions as "Happy Hours." Various forms of entertainment happened during these, including boxing, wrestling, music, dancing, and movies. By the end of World War I, the entire United States Navy had picked up the practice.

Secret Speakeasies

Prohibition brought along with it the next form of Happy Hour. Alcohol was illegal during this time, but that didn't mean that people had stopped drinking it. Many chose to meet up at a local speakeasy or each other's homes to enjoy a few secret cocktails before heading out to a restaurant where alcohol was not allowed. This practice of enjoying a few cocktails before dinner is much closer to what today's Happy Hour has turned into.

The Best Happy Hour in Des Moines

If you are in the Des Moines area, you've got five chances every week to enjoy our Wobbly Boots Roadhouse Happy Hour. Stop by, pull up a bar stool, and enjoy a few hours out of your day to relax and socialize. We offer a fully-stocked bar, great mixed cocktails, ice cold bottles of beer, and 18 delicious beer varieties on tap. You will even find a lot of your favorite local brews behind our bar.

You may be having such a great time, you'll want to extend your Happy Hour into a dinner with the best BBQ in Des Moines. No matter what time of day that you join us, our friendly staff will do their best to make sure that the hours that you spend at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse are all happy ones.
