Menu Showdown: Hand-Breaded Pork Tenderloin vs. Burnt Ends on a Bun

It's time once again for another showdown between two of the best items on the menu at our BBQ restaurant in Des Moines: the Hand-Breaded Pork Tenderloin versus our hickory-smoked Burnt Ends on a Bun. If you've dined more than once at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive, then there's a good chance you've tried both of these incredible sandwiches. If you haven't had them yet, it's time to get over here and figure out which one is your favorite!

Hand-Breaded Pork Tenderloin

The pork tenderloin is an Iowa tradition, and no restaurant in this state should be without an amazing version of one on their menu. Your Wobbly Boots Roadhouse kitchen has come up with one that will impress even the pickiest tenderloin aficionado.

We start out with a more-than-generous portion of meat. This is one gigantic sandwich! The next step is is to hand-dip it in buttermilk, then bread it in our expertly seasoned flour and fry it to a beautiful golden brown. It takes a big appetite to tackle this gargantuan sandwich! Think you're up to the task? It tastes so good, it's hard to stop eating once you stop.

Burnt Ends on a Bun

Our claims to fame are mouth-watering hickory-smoked meats and our house made BBQ sauce. You get a taste of both of these when you order our tender, juicy Burnt Ends. These savory beef chunks are carved right from the brisket point. Every order is seasoned, seared, and extra-smoked to the perfect captivating flavor.

We pile those burnt ends high onto a fresh Kaiser roll, then smother them in our very own secret-recipe BBQ sauce. This is yet another unforgettable sandwich that will make sure you don't go home hungry.

So, what do you think? You may have a favorite simply from the description, but the best way to make an educated decision between our incredible Des Moines BBQ restaurant menu items is to taste them for yourself. Remember that these each come with your choice of a home-style side dish too, so be sure to come in hungry!

Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is open seven days a week, ready and waiting to satisfy your appetite for the best food in Des Moines. These two unbelievable sandwich choices are just the beginning of the multitude of amazing flavors waiting for you. Come in soon and try them all!

5 Tasty Drinks To Enjoy With Your BBQ

We talk a lot about our amazing, mouth-watering, hickory-smoked BBQ, but we've also got the best bar in Des Moines right here, ready to mix up delicious drinks to go along with your fantastic meal. Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive features a full bar, and our talented bartenders know how to make the best-tasting drinks to complement that incredible BBQ flavor.

From simple to extravagant, we're ready to mix up all of your favorite cocktails. If it's new to us, tell us what's in it, and if we've got the right stuff to make it, we'll give it a try. If you don't already have a favorite drink, here are a few tried-and-true classics that always taste just right.

Long Island Tea

A delicious cocktail that tastes tame, but packs quite a punch. A mixture of 5 different spirits along with a dash of mixer brings this favorite drink to life. It's like enjoying a cool glass of iced tea, but with an extra, yummy kick.

Moscow Mule

The Moscow Mule is a refreshing specialty cocktail made from vodka, lime, and ginger beer. The part that makes it extra special is the fact that it is served in a copper mug to keep it at the perfect, ice-cold temperature that brings out those amazing flavors. The Wobbly Boots Roadhouse drink menu offers a few yummy variations on the original recipe too.

Bloody Mary

This drink isn't just for Sunday brunches (although it is perfect for that!) A rich and tasty Bloody Mary is a wonderful drink to stand alongside the bold, hearty flavors of our incredible BBQ. As an added bonus, you're getting some of your daily vegetable serving in while you drink. (Wait, isn't a tomato a fruit...)

Margarita

It's always a good time for a margarita, and they are especially tasty in the summer when it's hot outside. Either frozen or on the rocks, it tastes great with everything on our menu. If it seems strange to you to drink this tequila cocktail without eating Mexican food, ease your guilt by having one with our BBQ Pork Nachos.

Beer

While our bartenders don't have to mix anything to hand this ice-cold, refreshment, we simply couldn't leave beer off of our list. When you walk into Wobbly Boots Roadhouse and see those glorious 18 taps featuring all of the varieties of draft beer that we have available, not to mention the wide array of bottles we carry too, you're immediately thirsty for one. We even feature many local Iowa breweries in our selection.

While it's all about BBQ here at the Boot, our mixed drinks and beer selections are pretty incredible too. The best BBQ in Des Moines always tastes a little bit better when you have something delicious to wash it down with. Head on over to Wobbly Boots Roadhouse soon and tell our 'tenders what you'll have to drink. Join us for Happy Hour every Monday-Friday from 3-6 pm, and we'll even give it to you at a special price.

5 Things You'll Want to do After Dining on Wobbly Boots BBQ

Your plates that were just recently filled with the best BBQ in Des Moines have been cleared, your stomach is happy, as well as your taste buds, and it seems like there's nothing else to do but pay your bill and head home. Not true! We love having you here at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse with us, so we've come up with 5 things that you can do after you eat to stick around a while longer.

Wash your hands.

We strongly encourage our customers to dig right in when we hand them a big ol' plate of BBQ. It's okay if you get a little messy. Heck, we expect it. We've got handy wet wipes available, but if you really enjoyed that meal, you may need to skip off to the restroom for some soap and water. Just don't forget to take a BBQ selfie before you clean up! Once that BBQ is cleaned off of your skin, you'll be ready for these next ideas.

Try some dessert.

Our meals are quite a plateful, but if you plan ahead, you just might be able to save some room for dessert. We highly suggest you give our tasty treats a try. If you're worried about feeling too full, start out with the sweets and we'll give you a doggy bag to take your leftover BBQ home in. You only live once so have some fun, flip things around, and eat dessert first!

  • Rustic Apple Tart
  • Maple Layered Cheesecake
  • New York Style Cheesecake
  • Molten Lava Cake

Stick around for a cocktail.

There is absolutely no rush for you to leave once your meal is over. Stick around and enjoy one of the amazing mixed drinks or local draft beers from our bar. An after-dinner drink is a great way to relax and let that great meal settle. We'll bring it to your table or you're more than welcome to take your party on over and pull up a seat at the bar.

Catch a game.

If you time your dinner right and it's a game night, then you're definitely going to want to stick around after dinner and cheer on your team. There's baseball on every night right now, football is just around the corner, and the Olympics begin this week. Plenty of chances to catch some sports with us.

Write a review.

We do our very best to make sure your dining experience in our Des Moines area BBQ restaurant is the best it can possibly be. Eating everything on your plate is always a good indicator that you liked it, but hearing how you felt about your visit lets us know for sure. We love to hear what you think, and we encourage you to leave reviews for us on your favorite sites: Facebook, Yelp, TripAdvisor, Google, OpenTable... Let others know what a great experience they'll be missing if they don't come in.

There are five great ideas on how to extend your visit at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse beyond your meal. Our customers are like family to us, and we want you to feel right at home while you're here. Come on in, stay for a spell, and let us treat you right.

Menu Showdown: Ribs vs. Wings

Just as a parent doesn't have a favorite child, we love each of our savory Des Moines BBQ restaurant dishes equally. Incredible amounts of love, care, and nurturing go into every Wobbly Boots Roadhouse menu item, so you couldn't possibly ask us to choose one over the other.

You, on the other hand, CAN have a favorite! As an impartial judge, we would love to know how you feel about a couple of our most popular BBQ creations. Today we are pitting our jumbo, juicy chicken wings against our tender, meaty ribs. See if you can decide who is the tastiest.

Baby Back Ribs

When the word "BBQ" is uttered, who doesn't picture a big ol' rack of ribs? Here at the Boot, we know how to cook them up to be the most tender, most juicy, most mouth-watering ribs you've ever put in your mouth.

For our classic BBQ dinner featuring this incredible creation, we start with a 2-pound slab of meaty ribs. Our chef then coats them with our specially formulated dry rub before slow-smoking them over hickory.

Once they are perfectly smoked, we lightly grill them and baste them with our own homemade secret recipe sauce. You'll need a lot of napkins handy when you dig into a plate of these ribs filled with tender, delectable, fall-off-the-bone goodness.

Wobbly Wings

At the top of our appetizers section of the menu, you will see our award-winning Wobbly Wings prominently featured. These jumbo, bone-in chicken wings get a similar treatment our those tasty ribs, but come out with a flavor that's all their own.

The first step is to coat each wing in that special dry rub of ours. They are then slow-roasted in our hickory pit. Once they come out of the smoker, the juicy, taste-tempting flavor that they posses without sauce is unbelievable on its own.

To up the flavor ante even more, we have 4 of the best wing sauces ever made to coat them in.

  • BBQ - Our house recipe sauce. A great addition to anything!
  • Original - A sauce like no other. Try it, you'll be hooked.
  • Chipotle Buffalo - Our version of traditional buffalo.
  • Teriyaki - Sweet meets heat. Delicious!

Having trouble deciding?

We don't blame you one bit. Simply describing these amazing menu items has us drooling already. Once you come in to Wobbly Boots Roadhouse and get a whiff of that hickory-smoked aroma, it will be ever tougher to decide!

If it's truly too hard for you to pick between these two, we've got you covered. There is a Ribbies & Wings plate made especially for this reason. Two of our best dishes on one plate: 4 ribs and 5 wings. The only problem with ordering this sampler plate is that it will probably leave you craving more! No worries, we've got enough coming out of the smoker daily to feed even the biggest appetites.

No matter which Wobbly Boots Roadhouse menu item that you decide to order, we know you will leave satisfied, full, and with a big smile on your face. Don't put too much thought into your order, because it's all fantastic. You'll just have to come back to the best BBQ restaurant near Des Moines often and try something new each visit.

How We Create Award Winning Smoked Meats

Award winning BBQ near Des Moines is what we are known for, and the reason for that is not only the excellent variety that we offer, but also the way that we prepare our mouth-watering meats. Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive has taken your favorite hickory-smoked flavors and perfected them.

How do we do it?

Every single day here at the best BBQ restaurant in Des Moines, the first thing to greet you when you arrive will be the savory smell from our smoker. There is a new mouth-watering batch of meats slow-cooking over hickory daily.

We have discovered the perfect cooking times to give you the juiciest, most tender meats available. It wasn't hard to do, because we took inspiration from the BBQ meccas of the United States: Kansas City, St. Louis, Memphis, Texas, and the deep south. Our special dry rub begins the process, then that good ol' hickory takes over.

Our Smoked Meats

Pulled Pork
Our pulled pork is slow-smoked over hickory for 16 hours, then hand-pulled & trimmed.

Beef Brisket
Our juicy beef brisket hangs out in the smoker for 10 hours for maximum tenderness.

Burnt Ends
Extra-smoked, seasoned, and seared beef chunks carved right from the brisket point, then topped with our incredible house-made BBQ sauce.

Turkey Breast
100% white meat turkey breast, smoked to perfection.

Pit Ham
Lean, thin-sliced, and double-smoked.

Smoked Sausage
Hickory-smoked polish sausage. Low, slow, and unbelievable delicious.

Lots of Variety

All of these mouth-watering smoked meats can be ordered in sandwich form with one side dish or on a plate alongside a great big piece of Texas toast and two of our incredible side dishes. In addition to that, you can also find these tasty treats on a variety of other items throughout our menu. Here are a few:

BBQ Pork Nachos
Our house-smoked pulled pork is the feature in this incredible appetizer. It sits atop tri-colored tortilla chips along with our homemade white queso, baked beans, cheddar-jack cheese, tomatoes, & onions. It even comes with salsa, sour cream, and jalapenos.

Mushroom, Ham, & Swiss Burger
Hickory-smoked pit ham, sauteed mushrooms, and Swiss cheese are all piled on top of our classic Farm Boy black Angus burger.

Cowboy Cobb Salad

This "king of salads" is generously topped with our smoked ham & turkey, plus crumbled bacon, hard-boiled egg, avocado, tomatoes, red onion, and cheddar-jack & Provel cheese.

Texas 2-Step
Both smoked beef brisket and smoked sausage are drizzled with our house recipe BBQ sauce and served on golden Texas Toast.

Come on in to our Des Moines BBQ restaurant and give our unbelievable smoked meats a try. The Wobbly Boots Roadhouse kitchen crew will creatively prepare them in a variety of delectable ways, so you'll have plenty of delicious menu options. You will not be disappointed!
